By Patrick Wilde
Directed by Michael Matthews
July 20 – August 28, 2005
“…Whenever this fellow takes the helm at the Circle Theatre of Forest Park, this spectacularly uneven troupe raises its game so dramatically, you wonder if you somehow took a wrong turn off the Eisenhower. Here are Matthews’ strengths: He casts uncommonly well. His shows know how to move. His aesthetic choices are never cheap. And, above all, he has the ability to coax intensely believable performances out of often young and inexperienced actors.
In the case of Matthews’ latest Circle show, Patrick Wilde’s coming-out play, What’s Wrong With Angry?, it would take an exceptionally uncooperative piece of asphalt not to care about the gay British teenager at the show’s core. You’re right there with him in the cruel locker room, the school dance and the headmaster’s office. Right there. You believe it all. All night.”
“Top 5 shows to see now—highly recommended!”
“…a critical and audience hit…”
