“CRITIC’S CHOICE”- LA TIMES

“A star is reborn in “Funny Girl,” now marching its band out in Fullerton (and soon after, Redondo Beach). This solid 3D Theatricals revival of the classic 1964 musical generally engrosses, and triumphs in lead Nicole Parker.”“Not everything about director Michael Matthews’ adroit staging is as  transcendent, but it’s largely effective, particularly the presentational coups that close each act.”

“…..devoted ticket holders may well consider themselves the luckiest people in the world.”

-LA TIMES

What made Barbra Streisand a household name in 1964 is now in the capable hands of super talented Nicole Parker under the skilled and always reliable direction of Michael Matthews .

-BROADWAYWORLD

The great news about 3-D Theatricals’ ambitious revisit to the property is twofold. In the coveted role of Fanny, Nicole Parker gives a fresh and lively interpretation of the character, delivering an irresistible performance. Meanwhile, a sumptuous and rousing production, under the savvy direction of Michael Matthews (co-artistic director of the Celebration Theatre) belies the myth that this show is primarily a star vehicle.

-FRONTIERS

If CTG were to now rush to Fullerton and strike a deal, Michael Matthews should also be part of it. Yes, the director known here for his many recent achievements in small theaters has staged what seems to be his first production in a larger Southern California theater, and he has done a terrific job. He’s a prime example of the kind of award-winning LA director who is usually overlooked at CTG, in its attempts to keep its connections to New York on track.
